Tips on Setting Up Your Makeup Vanity - Decor and Organization

For those of you that don’t know, my family and I moved from Los Angeles, CA to Houston, TX mid-last year. When we were searching for our new home, one of my must haves was to have a makeup vanity space that was exclusive to conducting my daily makeup and skincare routines. Once we moved into our perfect home, it took me months to actually make my vanity space into something that was functional and glamorous for me. Now that it’s complete, I’m happy to present to you my vanity!

Yes, it is simple but I absolutely love it! Thinking of creating a vanity space in your home? Here are my tips on how to create a makeup vanity space in your home that is functional and glamorous!

Store Only What You Need

In my opinion, unless you are a mega beauty blogger or your career has anything to do with makeup, you do not need loads and loads of makeup in your home. For most of us, it is difficult to maintain a clean vanity space and store tons of makeup when your home or vanity area is small and limited. For myself, I don’t use a lot of makeup products. The products that I do use rarely change. Once I know a makeup product or brand works for me, I don’t stray away from it. At most, I will have two of each makeup product such as foundation and eyeliner (i.e., items I can’t afford to run out of).

Have Your Makeup Items Easily Accessible

Before I organized this space, I had a few items in my makeup vanity, other items in my bathroom sink vanity, and other items in my bedroom. Going back and forth was extending the time it took for me to complete my makeup routine and it was just making me work harder, not smarter. Now, I keep all the items I use for applying makeup in my makeup vanity space. That includes the wipes I use to clean makeup off my counter space and a tissue box to clean concealer off my fingers.

Make It Easy To Keep Your Area Clean

I know myself to be lazy sometimes when it comes to cleaning. Most times when I’m doing my makeup, I am usually in a hurry. I am more inclined to clean my area if I have my cleaning supplies nearby. That’s why I keep a tissue box on my counter and wet wipes in my makeup drawer.

Make It Look Pretty

The most important tip is to make your vanity look glamorous and fly! I chose to use gold brass (more on the antique brass side) to pop my white vanity. The aesthetics provides that extra push for me to be excited to do my makeup. Make sure that the setup of your vanity still coincides with the rest of the room that it’s in. My makeup vanity is in my bathroom and all the mirrors have an antique brass frame so I decided to play off the antique brass of the mirror frames.

Although I am very happy with how my vanity turned out, it is still not complete! I am currently on the lookout for vanity lights to replace the standard bathroom lights my home came with. I have a total of three sets to replace so I am taking my time to find ones that fit my bathroom as well as my vanity. Follow me on Instagram here to keep up to date with more home renovations!
